“The point is to infuse the music with neshama, and ultimately to channel yechidah...”
The point is to infuse the music with neshama Neshama: the soul that brings music to life. , and ultimately to channel yechidah Yechidah: the highest soul-level in Judaism, pure oneness. In music it represents the total crossover into intuitive playing in the moment. .
That’s why we train- to develop and reinforce the technical skills that will turn precision into muscle memory, so that we can fully resign to our intuition in the moment.
That’s what we all love about music; especially live music- and that’s what is so crucial to capture in recording. A great live performance or a great recording happens when you can hear the mind of the musician- not just technical beats.
